About The Film

"Grave Hands" is the incredible story of a man and his family who have dedicated their lives to saving and serving children and pregnant women in Vietnam. Along with providing a safe place for women and children at risk, Mr. Phúc routinely collects the bodies of recently terminated children, giving them a proper burial and grave. Since he began his mission in 2004 Mr. Phúc has buried over 23,000 infants and counting. He also does what he can to save others from this same fate. Most importantly, over 100 children have been rescued and/or adopted from an otherwise shallow grave.

Documentary Inception

A Vision

July 11, 2016

In mid 2016 I stumbled across a story on a facebook news feed that truly haunted me. Very rarely do I read stories that evoke a call to action, but Mr. Phúc's story was unique.

In researching his mission, and  speaking with a few trusted colleagues I begin the search for a film crew.

This was a project that could not be ignored.  I wasn’t sure how it was going to come together but I knew I had to move forward with the idea of a documentary on this extraordinary man.

While continuing to gather information about Mr. Phúc, I stumbled across a lady by the name of  Teresa who had met Mr. Phuc at his orphanage. This kind woman was willing to translate any messages I needed in order to converse with Mr. Phuc.

At this point I was still in need of a director, a local translator and a minimum of $20,000 for production costs. So the project was put on hold.

Old Friend

February 5th, 2017

By winter of 2017 I had nearly given up on the project. Then out of the blue I received a message from an old college friend whom I had not spoken with since 2008.

His name was Aaron and he had recently viewed my original post from 2016.

A few interesting details about my friend Aaron and his wife. Aaron is a documentary filmmaker, and his wife Rose is producer who was born and raised in Vietnam. Currently they live and work in Los Angeles, California but for one month out of a year they travel to Vietnam to visit family and find stories for documentary films.
